4 Keys to Envisioning Personal Style
Oct 06, 2020Growing up (even into adulthood), I found myself dressing according to what everyone else was wearing.
Or more so, what everyone approved of.
Because of this, I had no direction with my style, I found myself purchasing clothing just to purchase and soon found myself with a closet overrun with clothes that I didn’t really love.
Purchasing clothing that isn’t aligned with one’s personal style is a huge contributing factor to the clothing-over-consumption problem that many of us are facing. It’s why so many of us have a closet stuffed full of clothes that we barely ever wear. It’s one of the main reasons that despite plenty of choices in our wardrobes, we still feel as if we have nothing to wear.
Just because something is:
-
In style
-
The hottest trend
-
Practical
-
Fits well
-
Still is in good shape
-
On sale
Does NOT mean that it needs to be in your closet!
Before making any clothing purchase, the first thing that must be determined is:
“IS THIS ITEM IN QUESTION TRULY MY STYLE?”
And then the question becomes:
“WHAT EXACTLY IS MY STYLE?”
If you are unsure what your personal style is, don’t worry. You are certainly not alone. Uncovering your signature style is a lot more complicated than it needs to be.
I believe the mystery to everyone’s unique personal style can be discovered using the following 4 clues.
-
CULTURE’S INFLUENCE
How is your culture currently influencing you when it comes to what you wear? What is it telling you? How do you feel about it?
-
INSPIRATION
What TRULY inspires you when it comes to fashion and style? Is it really inspiring to you or do you like it just because it’s what’s “in” at the moment?
-
BODY TYPE
What body type are you? What types of clothing flatter your shape best? What do you feel the most confident in?
-
COLOR
What color “season” are you? What colors flatter your beauty best? What colors do you enjoy wearing the most?
