Forgetting What We’ve Been Taught | 3 Lies From Our Culture About Personal Style
Apr 28, 2022You’ll never believe this.
Our culture lied to us.
Shocker, right?!
(Please sense my sarcasm)
When it comes to determining personal style, often we find that figuring this out is much more complicated than it should be.
Why is that?
I believe that a major factor to our personal style roadblocks are the unreasonable requirements that our culture presses on us.
Frankly, these requirements are lies and need to be completely disregarded. If we continue to believe these lies, we will find it impossible to truly discover who we are when it comes to personal style.
Here are three of those lies that hold us back from determining - and embracing - our amazing personal style.
LIE 1: Our personal style should correlate directly to what is trendy.
TRUTH: Trends can certainly help inspire us in discovering our personal style, but they should NOT be our only guiding light.
LIE 2: Before we can determine our personal style, we must have our dream body.
TRUTH: We are 1000% able to discover (and rock) our personal style no matter what our body goals are and where we are at with them.
LIE 3: When determining personal style (and dressing) all “Fashion Rules” must be obeyed.
Some examples of said fashion rules are:
- No white after Labor Day
- Tall girls should not wear heels
- No denim on denim
- Undergarments should never be visible
- Sweatpants should stay at home
TRUTH: Always obeying fashion rules will only hinder our chances at determining our unique personal style. In my opinion - all fashion rules are meant to be broken.
De-bunking these lies is step one in figuring out your personal style. So, go forth and live out your fashion truth.
